Personal insurance
Insurance that protects what you're building
Life, trauma, income protection, disability and health insurance, explained in plain English and arranged alongside your home loan or business lending. We compare cover from most of New Zealand's major insurers.
Cover we advise on
The right cover for your mortgage and the people who rely on you
Life cover
A lump sum for your family if you die, so the mortgage and everyday costs are taken care of. Many policies also pay out early if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Trauma cover
A lump sum if you're diagnosed with a serious condition your policy covers, such as some cancers, a heart attack or a stroke, giving you time and choices while you recover.
Income and mortgage protection
A monthly payment if illness or injury stops you working. Income protection covers a share of your income; mortgage repayment cover is set to your home loan repayments.
Health insurance
Help paying for private surgery, specialists and tests, so you can be seen sooner and choose where you're treated, with the cover and excess that suit your budget.
Total and permanent disability
A lump sum if illness or injury means you're unlikely to work again, to clear debts and adjust your home and plans.
For business owners
Cover for the people your business relies on, and group cover for employers who'd like to look after their team.
How we help
- We start with your loan and your life. Your mortgage, income, health, family and business, so the cover fits what you'd actually need.
- We compare policies for you. From most of New Zealand's major insurers, with what's covered, what isn't and the cost set out plainly.
- We help with the application. Including the health and lifestyle questions insurers ask.
- We check in when things change. A new loan, a refinance, a new baby or a new business are all good times to review your cover.
We don't advise on general insurance, such as house, contents or car insurance. If you're buying a home, we can point you to providers so your house insurance is in place by settlement.
Insurers usually pay us a commission when a policy starts and while you hold it. How we're paid and our public disclosure set this out.
Questions people ask
Do I need life insurance to get a mortgage?
Usually not. Lenders need your home insured from settlement day, but most don't require life insurance for a home loan. It's still worth thinking about: if something happened to you, the mortgage would still need to be paid.
What's the difference between income protection and mortgage repayment cover?
Income protection pays a share of your income each month if illness or injury stops you working. Mortgage repayment cover pays an amount set to your mortgage repayments. Some people have one, some have both, and an adviser can explain which suits you.
How much does cover cost?
It depends on things like your age, health, whether you smoke, your job, how much cover you choose and how long you'd wait before a claim is paid. We compare policies and show you the cost before you decide.
Can you review insurance I already have?
Yes. We'll look at what you have, what it covers and whether it still fits your mortgage and family. Before you replace any policy, we'll explain what you could lose, such as cover for health conditions you have now.
Do you advise on health insurance?
Yes. We compare health insurance from New Zealand insurers, from cover for surgery and specialists to more comprehensive plans, and explain what's included, the excess and any waiting periods before you choose.
Do you give advice on KiwiSaver funds or investments?
Not at the moment. We help first home buyers use KiwiSaver towards a deposit as part of their home loan, but we don't advise on which KiwiSaver fund or provider to choose. For that, talk to an investment adviser.
Talk it through
Not sure what cover you need?
Tell us a little about your home loan and your family or business, and an adviser will walk you through the options, with no obligation.
